1. Could you give information about your company? What are your vision and mission?
GVDS was founded in 2006, architectural and interior design practice of the office consist of large
scale commercial buildings, houses and offices.
Especially in recent years, We are designing architectural and interior projects in Saudi Arabia, America and, Southern Cyprus. The mission of GVDS and its mission are in fact very overlapping
‘’ Producing eligible and applicable projects ‘’. The aim of the applicable project is to design projects that will play an active role in the realization of the project, in accordance with the sensitivities and priorities of all the actors who will be playing, in terms of their strong and delicate aspects, and in terms of design, which will lead to a pioneering path for both their contemporaries and future generations.
2. How would you describe your design identity in your projects?
I don't think of design as a personal identity, because it’s an infinitive and continuous adventure and period. In this period, I think it is best to express the best of the designs and designers coming out of these lands.
It is very important for me to create this collective consciousness with both my colleagues in the office and our employers. When designing a project, we explain our perspective to our projects to see the experiences of the users in the structure, to care for them, to create a better perception of space for our stakeholders in the society by means of the instrument in our hands, to see and return to the return of our labor in this way and to be motivated by this method.
3. Which project is the most satisfied for you?
As time goes by, your attitude towards the project is changing, and it was an amazing experience for me to design the Palladium Antakya at the age of 30, and then the Watergarden Istanbul project created a turning point for the office. 10 years later, to be able to build a Watergarden in Jeddah, to be working in a large shopping center in Arizona, all these projects are very special experiences for my friends.
4. What is the greatest source of motivation in your professional life?
Touching people's lives and using the instrument as a healing power.
5. From the day you started your architectural career, what changes have been made in your design mentality? What is the moment you say it was my turning point?
Designing is not very different from other vital activities in my life, as I grow, as it evolves, it grows and evolves with me, but how we actually decide that if the essence of man never changes, only through time, whether or not it will be expressed in the best sense of that essence or not. I've always tried to build my relationship with myself and the world through architectural or interior design and I work hard to do better. As for the turning point, I think that the pursuit of glory, not the glory, served me better in the creative process, but if I had to answer your question, I felt very good when I made the agreement in Arizona.
6. What do you think about the use and importance of natural light in design?
There is nothing like an optimistic place washed with natural daylight, but it is not always easy to get it.
Natural daylight changes the perception of the scale as well as giving a different touch to the materials used in the space. In our designs, we try to use natural light at maximum in vertical elements and ceiling layer.
7. In the light of the unceasing developments in the world of architecture, what is the point in the use of glass in designs? How do you use glass in your projects?
The advantages such as the visual permeability provided by technological glass material, thinning sections and the use of light in large areas provide a great advantage especially in the design of our residential and shopping center. We benefit from the use of technological glass to create more transparent areas, to benefit from daylight in a controlled manner, to create visually more permeable facades and to create ceilings/roofs. In our project practice in different geographies, the ability of the glass to adapt to the climate thanks to technology makes our job much easier. Apart from this, material uses vary in each project. But the general tendency can be explained by the existence of the opposite, the human perception works in this direction. Therefore, we like to use transparency and lightness that the glass promises with more raw or solid building materials that can be found in its exact opposite pole, but as I mentioned it is changing from project to project. Sometimes we use the same thin section and lightness advantage of the glass, and at the same time, we are using steel structural elements as well as the areas we use with steel.
The most important factor in choosing the building elements to be used together; we pay particular attention to the details we produce on these issues in providing heat and sound insulation, space and user comfort.
8. What are your ideas about retractable architectural systems? What do you think about adding to the design?
Being under a retractable ceiling is the same feeling as being in a convertible car, and if this ceiling can be glass or transparent, it gets more and more effective, taking the perception of space to the next level, especially the interpretation of a building element that we love to use in our restaurant applications.
9. If you were to choose one retractable system, which one would be your favorite?
So this interview with you do not affect the answer I must first specify this.
Libart is a very dominant and hard working firm in both engineering and aesthetics. Free Standing and Sola Glide are not only aesthetically pleasing products that fulfill their well-designed functions, but also two products that I find very successful in providing the same convenience to the people who will operate the space.
10. What do you want to say to young architects at the beginning of your career?
In my previous speeches at universities, giving the same advice is not an act that performs a lot of functions, but as a voice about 10-15 years later, I can share my opinions according to my own experience, don't descend from the ring, they never give up and they demand more from both themselves and their interlocutors.
11. ’’Freedom on facades’’ with these sentence, what kind of concept revive in your eyes?
We can perceive it with the help of contrasts, that is to say, with the absence of existence, the limitations of freedom. First of all, it is necessary to imagine what the constraints are and how they can be overcome.
For simple freedom, expanding the border is not enough for me. The definition of the boundary and the right to give the right, after that limit to expand, to convert a more meaningful action, at least for me. Overcoming physical constraints has become easier with the help of technology, passing through a technological age that allows for greater openings, wider fronts and more continuously. We are reading publications that tell us that spaces will be moved to virtual spaces in the distant future. There will no longer be any restrictions in the virtual space, but I am not quite sure whether this will be complete freedom. The point that I want to come to is perhaps as an attitude to the developments I mentioned; it will be freedom not to do what is already possible. We will all see together.
12. Do you know Libart products, can you get feedback on the product?
As I mentioned, we worked with Libart on many projects, Mrs. Dilek and Mr. Suat in the technical field, during the installation they were really very dominating. I am proud of the fact that they are investing so well in their own productions and they are involved in projects abroad as a Turkish company and brand.
13. How can you design spaces when retractable large openings through retractable systems? What benefits could this product to spaces?
I'm hoping that the Free Standing system can be further developed and transformed into a home concept that can grow temporarily or according to need. Thank you very much for the interview and the questions so well prepared.
